Confession Wednesday: To stamp or not to stamp?

I've been wondering for months now: Would it be tacky to create an online Christmas letter this year? I've mailed out letters for several years running now, and I'm always excited when everyone else's cards, letters, and pictures start rolling in each December. But this year I haven't been able to bring myself to buy the stamps yet.

For the record, I would strive to create a good online letter: pictures, music, attempts at wit that I'll agonize over and rewrite many times, etc. I'm adding a poll to the sidebar, because I really just can't decide what to do. But since I'm investing my hard-earned funds in a new monitor for the homeschool computer today, I know which direction I'm leaning.

At least that's the way I'll lean until the mail comes at 3:00 with more stamped Christmas cards and the guilt kicks in.

Would an online creation (in place of a stamped letter) bug you?

I am all about simplifying this year....Having said that, tradition is tradition and far too many things have gone the way of the computer, mostly for good reasons. I love a handwritten, or at least a hand signed card coming in my mail box, wishing me a Merry Christmas. I love to hang the card and post your family's pic on my fridge. I would be a tinge annoyed if I had to print your's out myself. Now if you decide to send electronically I will still love your great wit, and good humor but my mailbox and fridge will miss you!

Would an online one print out in one page and go in the family history books? (Bet you can't guess who this is?!)

Seeing as I haven't sent out a Christmas card yet (and we've been married almost 5 years) I think that anything you do is wonderful. So just decide what the best allocation of your resources is (both time and money).

I quit sending out cards about 5 years ago. I would send out 75ish and receive about 25 in return. So I decided that it probably wasn't important to others either. But I think if you make it a nice presentation, I would actually print it off for the wall o'cards I still get. There's my 2 cents!!!

I still remember when my mom would get your Christmas cards every year and would display them in her house. I loved to read them, that's when I barely knew you and we had nothing in common. Now we have quite a bit in common and I know you well but my mom would still love to get a card from you and I know she would read an email one but wouldn't print it out and display it so other people would never get to read it. Just based on the memory of your Christmas cards years and years ago I say, "stamp."

I say, we're all poor! And its only 2 weeks till Christmas! People will love to hear from you in any form. Make some witty joke about going green and all will be forgiven!

I LOVE getting the mail every December and displaying the cards from friends in all the previous places we've lived. That said....this year, we've received ONE. We sent out 75. As much as I hate to see it happen, I think Christmas cards will soon be extinct. I can appreciate all the reasons why but it still makes me sad. Hope I get a card from you either way.
