Throwing Things Out-Confession Wednesday

I got this book from the library, "Throw Out Fifty Things; Clear the Clutter , Find Your Life." It goes through each room of your house and encourages you to throw things away that you no longer use, are holding you down in someway, or just can't let it go. If you throw out 10 pairs of pants it counts as one item. I happened to start reading the book in my bedroom so I promptly went to my closet and finally cleaned out my sock drawer. I hate socks. I wear flip flops probably 364 days out of the year. Why did I have so many socks? I also threw away an older duvet cover that I made probably 10 years ago when I was living in Utah. That cover had more memories associated with it then probably anything I owned. I had moved it around a lot and finally throwing it away did lighten my load. Something that the book said would happen, that throwing things away was a way to clear your mind. Another thing I threw away that I was holding onto for no reason at all was a pen holder on my desk. I probably made it fifteen years ago at a paint your own pottery place. This thing was seriously ugly! I should have thrown it out years ago! I now have my pens in a black mug, not my favorite thing but so much better than before. Again, it feels fantastic now to reach up and grab a pen and I do feel better.

So right now go find something that should have been thrown away but you never did-and let me know what it was! Mom and Beth-I'm anxiously waiting your answers!

Ha! You're so funny! I put the book on my hold list at the library before I finished your post!

I can't believe you threw out the duvet!

Ah-ha, I was a few days ahead of you. I finally went through my book shelf and threw away all the teenage romance novels that I will NEVER read again. Why have I kept them, maybe thinking my kids would read them...they never did.

I read a similar book. Can't remember the name cause I gave it away. I got a bunch of bags from Fred Meyer and I label them in the closet. Books, Clothes, Housewares, Tolietries, ETC...When I finish using something I put it in the bag and when the bag is full, I take it to a consignment store or Goodwill or bring it to church to give to someone that may have mentioned a need. It really has worked and I feel a sense of accomplishment when I have an empty bag.

Oh, I am there. I am feeling lighter already because I have been going through the girls' bedrooms! They are such slobs and it's nice to be able to go past their rooms and not see the mess. Plus Buttercup is such a packrat!
I really like Tana's idea.

Adam and I have been cleaning and getting rid of stuff all day. Getting rid of stuff is one of my FAVORITE things to do. Adam, however, hates it and we have several boxes full of junk from his growing up years in the garage that he has NEVER even looked at. Yay for getting rid of things! Isn't it cathartic?

Garbage day is my favorite day of the week...I love waking up with the knowledge that all that trash will be taken away by the end of the day!! Much to my kids dismay, I also love cleaning out and de-junking. Cathartic is a great word for it! Yeah for not holding on to things you "might need someday" (my husband's excuse for not throwing stuff out).

Oh Man! I am awful. I get too emotionally attached to things. I think my love for Disney has ruined me. Everything has a personality and it makes it harder to get rid of. Blast Toy Story. I can still hear my Cabbage Patch Doll crying from the dump. I will email when I have successfully gotten rid of some of my things.

YONF, I took your challenge and began with the guest bathroom (previously owned by the single YONF.)I began to throw things away that had been in the cabinet for over six years, like old bubble bath, old toothbrushes, hair brushes, hair ties, etc. I do feel lighter. I even gave YONF a tour of the "decluttered" bathroom when she came over, she was impressed! Thanks for the motivation and now I am moving on to the hall closet, I can't stop...I can't sto...I can't st... decluttering!

My big throw-out (and give-away) is going to be its own post once I fulfill more pressing obligations and get to the project.

But I did get rid of three pairs of sandals today!
