I have a friend from college that picks a word/goal for the year instead of resolutions. I've been thinking about what I want my word to be and I have decided. Are you ready? Prepare!
My goals for the year are:
- Prepare better to serve my family meals.
- Prepare each night for an easier morning. Clean up the house at night to wake up to a clean sink and a clean floor.
- Prepare to some day move. No I'm not making an annoucement. We are NOT moving. However, we have 7 people in a 1400 square foot house. If you do the math you realize we can't live here forever. So this involves me cleaning out my closet and the garage. Getting rid of stuff so when we do someday move I will be more prepared for it.
- Prepare my van so that when I go out of town I don't have to spend forever cleaning it to prepare for our trip.
- Prepare my body to be stronger and healthier so I don't get sick as often.
Does anyone else have a good suggestion of what I can prepare? Or what their word for the year might be?

Funny, I was just talking to Mrs. B. about this the other day. My word is Initiative. It has been great these past few days. Dumb things like the hay and leaves that parked themselves on my front porch last Fall are now gone. Two pictures that have been waiting to be hung now hang...thank you Mr.S. Duvet cover is now sewn to fit rather than being 14 inches too long. All carpets shampooed. Not bad for two days work.
I've been thinking about a word of the year since Jacque and I talked too! I love what both of you chose, and Jac, you're a whirlwind of productivity! I'm still undecided on my word. (Tempted to make it "chaos," so I can feel all accomplished.)
That reminds me: check out Mandi's 101 goals in 1001 days. (Hope you don't mind me sharing, Mandi!) She's been plowing through them like nobody's business.
YONF, it seems to me that your word of the year could be "Preparation" seeing as how all your goals started with that word.... or "Anticipation" as in anticipating a future need and preparing for it ahead of time.
Ok, so now you have to check out what Jenn's up to!
Maybe #1 on my list should be to stop admiring everyone else's lists and make my own already. :)
That's a great word. My kids have heard me say a thousand times, Fail to plan, plan to fail. It's totally interchangeable with Fail to prepare, prepare to fail! Good Luck! Do the van first, I love a clean car. Thank goodness my better half does too!
Mrs. B you flatter me! You are one who has inspired me to set my goals and get things rolling!
Love ya!!
What a great idea! I'm going to choose a word too. i'll have to think on it but I love yours. I could easily add the same ones to my list.
I strive each year for peace. However, I can't stop myself from doing 40 things at once. So last year I put a word by the phone that just said, "No". Whenever someone calls and asks me to do something that I don't have time for, instead of fixing their problem I just say "no". It doesn't work wonders and I need a pad of paper by my cell phone too, but I strive for perfection. My word is still "NO"
